Birth Story-Part 2

Back to the story...

Derek and I spent all of Labor Day (the holiday) deep cleaning our house. I have never cleaned that well in my life-i bet derek wishes i did that everyday! Anyways, we get up and get to the hospital at about 5:15am. I wanted to get there early in case that had anything to do with us getting a good room (FYI-it doesn't-rooms are pre-assigned). We get checked in and settled in our room. Not too long after that a nurse comes in to start my IV and things started going downhill from there. The nurses couldn't get the IV started, so they called in a senior nurse and she finally got it going, but by that time my arm was killing. The doctor comes in and tells me i am almost 4cm-that explains why i thought i was going to have the baby at Chili's the night before! The next couple of hours are kinda a blur. I know i tried to rest but couldn't and they started my pitocin at some point and broke my water. Not long after they broke my water i told them i was ready for an epidural, so begins my hell. All my friends had told me a million times that getting the epidural is not bad at all, so i reallly wasn't that nervous about it. Looking back i guess i should have been.

To make a long, dramatic story a bit shorter I will just say that the doctor wasn't on his A game that day and no matter how many times he poked in my spine he just couldn't get the thing to work. I had a total of 3 epidurals that day. The first 2 only made my right thigh numb, and by the time he got the 3rd one to work i was already 9 1/2cm. I never had time to enjoy the epidural bc it was time to push! I really don't know how women have/had babies without drugs. Trust me when i say it is a pain like no other.

I pushed for about 2 hours and my doctor came in and pretty much told me that baby was just not coming out and i need to think about the section. She had kinda prepped me for this bc they thought the baby was going to be so big. By that point I was so exhausted. I had gone through a whole day of unmedicated labor (it was almost 6pm) and a csection sounded fine to me.

Once i told them to go ahead with the section things moved pretty quick. I had told the doctor i wanted derek to tell me what the baby was (we didn't find out) and once Beckett came out derek immediately started taking pictures and forgot to tell me the sex! Finally a nurse said "aren't you going to tell her what it is??" He finally said "It's a Boy" and the doctor held this perfect yet huge baby spread eagle over the curtain for me to see....and so begins the rest of this story......
oh, and by the way...if you ever find yourself at baptist hospital ask for a red popscicle-they have the best ones ever:)

The Birth Story-Part 1

So, now that I seem to have somewhat of a handle on this motherhood thing I have decided to pick up where i left off in the blogging world. I think the best place to start would be reliving the day our whole world changed.....
Last time i wrote i was about 35 weeks pregnant and I had just developed PUPPPs, well things kinda went downhill from there. I was given a steriod to help control the rash and not long after that we had an ultrasound to check the baby since that hadn't been done since 18 weeks. Well, at that appt. the tech informed us that the baby was weighing in at 8lbs. 15ounces. I about fell off the table and derek laughed out loud. We were in shock, and so was our doctor, so began the talk of early delivery. She sent me to meet with a specialist to see about having an amino to check lung development. I was not onboard with that idea but i went anyway to see what he had to say. The ultrasound at the specialist office measured the baby at 7lb. 13oz. (looking back i think that was an accurate guess), he also told he thought it would be fine to wait to 38 weeks and i wouldn't need the amnio, we just might be having a very large now fast forward about 2 weeks and lots of ultrasounds later and we have an induction date of Sept. 4th (10 days before our due date) This sounds like a plan to me bc i am already having contractions and my PUPPPs is coming back, not to mention bedrest is becoming VERY boring. We laid low all of Labor Day weekend and went into the hospital that Tuesday morning.......
I need to go get dinner together so i will pick up here in the next couple of days!

Baby Beckett is here!!!

Beckett arrived September 4th at 6:22pm. He weighed 8lbs. 9oz. and was 21in. And no were weren't really that surprised he was a boy. Everyone had been saying that for so long that we started to believe it! He is so cute and such a good baby. We are having some problems with the whole eating thing, but hopefully we will get that worked out soon.

Enjoy the pics for now and i will post the birth story soon.....

35 Week Appt. and a little thing called PUPPPs

I went alone today for my 35 week checkup. I am not dialated and the baby is active so everything looks good there. But......for the past week or so I have been having some major problems with my stomach itching like crazy. At first I chalked it up to my skin stretching, but then I started to get a rash that was spreading all the way up my stomach. I knew that was not normal, so first on my list of questions for Dr. Travelstead today was "What in the world is this and how can we make it stop itching!" After a brief look and a sympathetic sigh she informed me that I have something called PUPPPs. Very little is known about PUPPPs and it is only supposed to get worse. My arms and legs have started itching, but i am hoping the rash won't spread too bad-mainly because with it being 100 degrees outside i can't exactly cover it up.

So, i guess this means i am going to be buying out the local CVS until i find something that works for longer than an hour-Wish me luck!

Welcome Back!

Ok, so I have finally decided to pick up where I left off in the blog world over a year ago. I gave up on the blog because I didn't really feel like I had anything cool to write about. Well, that has all changed now and I am starting back up. I think we will have plenty to share over the next few weeks, months, bear with me as I get reaquainted with everything!
