Ok, so for my birthday/christmas i want a new camera. I am thinking it is time to just spend the big bucks and get a good one. Here is my question-which one do i get?!? I have been looking at the Nikon N60 and have heard good things about the Canon Rebel. I do use photoshop some and i would love a camera that is VERY user friendly and easy to download the pics onto your computer from (my mom's camera is weird about that). I took photography in college, but i consider myself a beginner in all this for sure. I know i want a digital SLR and something that is not at the top of the price range would be great!
So.....any advice would be appreciated. What kind of camera does everyone use??? what are your likes and dislikes about it???

i have the rebel xti and love it. it's easy to transfer picture, too. but i also liked that if/when i get the "big" lens for the digital rebel, it will fit my 35mm rebel as well. same goes for the external flash.
but the nikons are nice, too...i've just always had canon's, so when we started looking for the slr, it wasn't even something i thought twice about...
Wade got me a nice camera last year for our 10th anniversary. It is a Canon Powershot and it is good, but the more I have gotten into photography over the last year, I am realizing I need an SLR. We have been shopping and looking at the Nikon D80 (i believe that is the one). I am hoping Santa brings me that;o)
I hear the Rebel is a good SLR as well.
i have a canon rebel - got it last year - from beachcamera.com (per suggestions from others who had bought there) i got with david legg and he gave me lots of good advice. i have the rebel XT and is 8.0 megapixels. i wish i had gotten a SLR when camp was a baby - it is so nice to be have faster shutter speed!!! i dont miss much with nash =) david told me that the 10 megapixels would be useful if you want to print really large pictures... BUT i will say that i wish i had gotten the XTI, i have shot with someone else's and it seems to take better pictures than the XT =)
but i also have a canon elph for my purse/diaper bag =)
don't get a digital rebel. that was the first "grown-up" purchase i made 4 years ago. it is easy to use and i have some great pictures from it...BUT it is always on the fritz. i take it into deville all the time.
i use my camera ALL the time, so it might be the wear and tear, but
my camera always gets an err 99 message. you can google it and read about it. apparently it is a pretty common thing and no one seems to understand what causes it really...that's what the deville guy told me at least. if i take off the lens and clean the contacts it seems to go away. they might have fixed this problem in the newer versions, but i would make sure.
recently i have been getting message errors saying CF full. it deleted all the pictures on my flash drive. i was able to restore some, but not all of them. i now have to go buy a new card.
i would suggest going to deville and talking to them about nikons. i don't know anything about them, but they have to be better than the digital rebel!
i will say that i LOVE my promaster (70-300mm) lens. it takes amazing pictures. i have their flash too and it is wonderful. i pretty much love everything they make.
sorry for the rant. my camera deleted my pictures just last week...so i'm still a little bitter.
hope you get a good one!
Check out cnet.com – it is a non bias technology review site and my first stop when shopping for electronics. My dad bought a digital camera based on its reviews, and they were spot on.
